Want to see migratory birds foraging, resting and passing through Central Florida on their way to Arctic nesting grounds?

Want to learn more about these species from naturalists and local Audubon members?

Come join us on MDC’s Discovery boat as we head to Disappearing Island once a month in January, February, March and April. Guest birders will disembark at Disappearing Island at Ponce Inlet and walk the shoreline to explore and view such species as red knots, black skimmers and a variety of plovers and sandpipers only seen in this area during the winter months. This three-hour trip will give guests time to explore on their own or with small groups of experienced birders.

The first trip is set for Thursday, Jan. 9, leaving MDC’s dock on the North Causeway in New Smyrna Beach at 9:30 a.m. Guests are encouraged to bring binoculars, viewing scopes and to wear comfortable shoes to walk along the shoreline. Subsequent dates currently scheduled are February 13, March 19, and April 9.

Adults are $40, seniors & students are $37, and children under 12 are $22. Membership discount and family rate are available.
