What does the natural world sound like when data becomes music? Join internationally recognized interdisciplinary artist Aric Attas for a STEAM artist talk exploring how science, data and creativity come together through sound.
In his Discovery Lecture Series presentation “Driven by Curiosity: STEAM, Inspiration and the Creative Process” at Marine Discovery Center on Thursday, Feb. 5, Attas will take guests through a unique and fascinating journey of his creative process translating the subtle electrical energy patterns of living plants into music. The presentation will begin at 6 p.m.
Hear music shaped by lunar cycles and ocean tides. Through images, videos and immersive sound, this talk offers an accessible and inspiring look at how science and nature can combine to invite a deeper sense of connection with the natural world.
Attas holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Hobart College and a master’s of fine arts degree in photography from Hartford Art School. Exploring how data from the natural world can become music, he creates generative installations and compositions by designing systems that translate environmental information.
